Expanding Horizons
All Systems Go!
It was another ‘full on’ fun fun week at Clifton Terrace this week. Firstly the sun was out which was a complete change from last week and we had some lovely warm winter days, although the starts were a little chilly. All classes have been fully engaged in many different activities both within their own classes and with different cultural groups. Judy’s GATE children have been working enthusiastically on a variety of vignettes about our anti-bullying policy at this school and we are waiting to see those presented in a variety of ways next week. Room ten were fully involved in preparing their luscious lunches to the school as part of the weekly hot lunch menu. Talking with their teacher, it seemed to be a great success with forty four orders for their nutritious ‘wraps’. Well done R10. Room four conducted a great assembly today with a lot of songs being shared and sung. Well done to Mr Stawbridge and R4. As part of the assembly, the Kapa Haka group performed. The girls did a fantastic poi (Maori action song with poi) with a mix of five year olds through to elevens. The boys followed with a hearty rendition of the haka, Kamate Kamate. Miss Moorhouse is in charge of Kapa Haka and is doing a magnificent job. Next week we plan to have a this item devoted to Kapa Haka, so tune in next week for more. Mr Science is once again here and doing a ‘sterling’ job with all the classes. Stan is back part time and is his usual perky self, welcome back Stan, and thanks to Gary for stepping in over the last few weeks and carrying the extra load. Lyn is away in the USA at her daughter’s wedding, and we wish them a safe journey and a great time. Congratulations to Jayne, who by the way is a CTS ‘old girl’. And finally, Humpty Dumpty!! Rooms eight and nine have been looking at catapults and trebuchets as part of our structures and mechanisms. The brief is to create a catapult that will heave Humpty Dumpty (an egg) over a castle wall. We have started off small by making peg catapults that heaved ‘Humpty Mumpty’, (a marshmellow). We had some cool results with some ‘Mumpties’ reaching nearly 3m and some ending up in peoples’ bellies!!! Next week we step up to ice cream stick and rubber band catapults and the big ones come out in the last week of term! Photo gallery R9 Blog Site R8 Blog Site
If you did not notice the link to Room eight’s website on our home page, click here to visit our site and read our Pick-a Path stories, they are fantastic and I am very proud of the children and their perseverance and their outcomes.
