Home and School

Our Home and School Committee is a group of fantastic parents and teachers who get in behind fund raising opportunities for the school.  There are several things that are annual events; Tea by the Sea, Movie nights, Quiz nights, making Calendars and Olive Oil; also other fund raising events such as sausage sizzles, and cake stalls.

Tea by the Sea has grown into an Atawhai/Marybank Community event.  It is a night of food stalls and children’s entertainment, as well as raffles, music and a chocolate wheel.  It is a success because so many people get involved and invite family and friends for a scrumptious dinner they don’t have to cook, but get to enjoy in a fantastic setting (the school playing field).

The School Disco is a family affair.  Usually there will be a sausage sizzle, supper and a very good DJ getting the kids, parents and teachers to strut their stuff.  The Committee makes Calendars from the children’s art work which can be purchased as presents (all all made in time for overseas Christmas posting).

Our CTS Olive Oil is world famous in Nelson.  We have an olive grove at CTS and also pick olives from the Nelson Community, which are sent away for pressing and then we get back bottles of pure delight to sell.  It is very popular!

Our fundraising has contributed to the senior school camps, $$ for teachers to spend on their classes, a new junior playground and new sports uniforms for our school teams.

Our committee is made up of volunteers, with one thing in common – CTS children at heart.  We meet when needed, have a lot of fun, have been known to drink a glass of wine (or beer) or two (or tea and coffee) at meetings and generally the home baking is primo.

We are always keen to find new opportunities, and to improve our current events and introduce new ideas.

New members are welcome at any time (we aren’t strickly formal and don’t wait for AGM’s).

We’d like to welcome you and your ideas – whether through coming along to a Committee meeting, volunteering to be on a stall at Tea by the Seaea, making cakes or helping to put together calendars…there are lots of opportunities to get involved and to meet more parents at CTS.

What we do is enable CTS to put the icing on the cake – fund the extras that make a great school even better.

Upcoming events where we need help and committee meetings are advertised in the school newsletter.  If you would like more information or would like to be involved, please give Vick a call in the school office on 545 0532.  Thanks.
